LIVING MERCHANDISE

Please remember that our merchandise is alive, and that our tips are a service of knowledge. Our priority is keeping our plants healthy. Our plants are sold in the pot size that best suits them based off their growth pattern. This also means that we plant them according to their season; some plants are not ready as soon as others. Our goal is to provide you with the tools and information you need to help your plants thrive. However, there is no guarantee on living things. All living things eventually die, some sooner than others. Working in the garden teaches us many lessons, one of those lessons is how to let go and to discern when it is time for something to die.

ANNUALS

Our annual greenhouse is full of bloomers, bedding plants, herbs, vegetables, and more! We grow 90% of our annuals during the late winter and early spring months, so that they are full, thriving, and ready to bring you color and joy upon purchase! Most of these plants are waiting for you when we open our gates on April 1st. We also plant hanging baskets, inserts, herb pots, and salad pots! The planting of these pots is timed so that they are still young (and the best is yet to come) when you take them home; this gives you the most time to enjoy the blooms!

Please keep in mind that keeping our plants healthy is our priority. Our plants are sold in the pot size that best suits them. This also means that we plant them according to their season; some plants are not ready as soon as others. For example: cucumbers and zucchini like the heat, and therefore should not be planted until later in the season. For this reason, we do not sell them in April, but wait until the season is right for them.

TREES

We sell a broad variety of Ball & Burlap (B&B) trees as well as container and growbag trees. Container trees are priced by the unit. B&B evergreen trees are priced by the foot (height), and deciduous B&B trees are priced by the caliper inch (measured circumference of the trunk).

The majority of trees we sell here at San Juan Gardens are grown by North Mesa Farms. These trees grow in the same clay you sweat over with a shovel and a bag of compost. So, when it comes time to add a tree to your own plot of land, there’s no need to worry about soil shock!

When it comes to the slow growing trees, we’ve already got trees started for when your children plant their own. We are happy to see generations of trees which started their lives at North Mesa Farms shade generations of our customers.

Just like the rest of our plants, we only sell trees which are adaptable to the climate of Western Colorado.
